Sweeping the Nation
This summer I have become rather addicted to this phenomenon called "the blogging world." Not just posting my own random thoughts, photos and updates, but spending a large amount of time reading other people's thoughts. Sometimes even people I have never met. Now, for many of you, you may find this strange. It has been my experience in conversation with a variety of folks that people who grew up in an age without the internet find it rather astonishing that there is a generation of individuals out there who feel the need to spend time reading and sharing thoughts and opinions about almost anything in a public forum, but it is true, there is a generation like this. And I belong to it--for better or for worse. It's become my morning routine. Roll out of bed, grab my cup of coffee that my husband has ready for me, and flip on the computer to check what is new on my large list of favorite blogs. I started by reading thoughts from close friends, and have branched out to regularly checking sites of women I have never, and probably will never, meet. I read people's thoughts on theology and how God is working in their lives, I love blogs that have stories of raising families, cooking experiences, humorous stories of interactions with people etc. There are a few I read that I disagree with the author, but still find it entertaining. And of course I still love reading updates from my friends and family members. There is a strange voyeuristic aspect to this--in no other time period would I have the ability to know so much about a family on the other side of the country whom I will never meet. Yet I continue reading. And the fact that you are reading this shows that you too, have entered into the blog-o-sphere. I don't really know what to think about this, other than that I enjoy it immensely and plan on continuing reading and writing and possibly reflecting on this new phenomenon that I have recently realized I'm kind of in love with.

I usually go with "blagosphere" :oD. Do you tweet at all? I've had some very interesting experiences with the Boston tech community via Twitter (even including a job offer!).
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! I too share your love of reading other people's blogs- especially family members who don't live close. I've had a lot of fun reading your blog lately and keep meaning to post a comment to you! :) Hugs sent your way from Washington!
ReplyDeleteI used to read a TON of "stranger's blogs", in addition to many many friends. However, it began to take up far too much of my time. I have since cut down quite a bit. Now, I mostly stick to people I know (with a few exceptions), though I will occasionally google one from my past (or click on it from a friend's sidebar) and read a few posts.
ReplyDeleteBlog-reading is great! I specially love blogs that encourage me in my faith.
Oh, and I like your new layout. very cool. You changed your title too! (you may have done this a while ago, but since I read in google reader, I only pop over to comment... sorry if this is really late) :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha =) Thanks for the comments y'all! Nick--nope, I draw the line at Twitter, I just can't do it--facebook status updates are enough for me! Becky--SO fun to see you on here! I had no idea you read this! That baby bump is looking awfully cute! =) Vicky--glad you share my obsession!
ReplyDeleteI love reading blogs. Seeing and hearing about what people are doing. I especially enjoy yours.
