Remembering Gramma Nan

We are having an amazing vacation so far--God created honeymoons for a reason! We've seen some breath-taking views, Chuck has surfed the famous Santa Cruz surf breaks, I have gotten to read magazines which requires zero brain power, we visited the Monterey aquarium and did the 17 mile drive to Carmel yesterday, and have eaten some phenomenal sea food at delicious restaurants! It's definitely been a great week so far. We received word yesterday morning, however, that my wonderful Gramma Nan (my mom's mom) passed away Tuesday evening. She wasn't doing well, and my mom had spent the whole week out there with her, saying it wasn't going to be long. Both Megan and I were able to talk to her on the phone and say goodbye to her, and tell her we loved her, but it wasn't quite the same as getting to be there in person. She went really peacefully, her good friend & long time massage therapist even came when my aunt called to say Gramma was dying, and Marcia (her massage therapist) massaged her body with soothing oils until she died, which was exactly how grandma would have wanted it---a peaceful ending to an incredible, a very difficult, and sometimes painful life. Grandma was loved by so many, and I know that at her memorial party in August there will be all kinds of people on hand to say their goodbyes, and I look forward to reflecting more on her life and remembering this incredible woman whogave so much of herself away. Grandma loved walking on the beach more than anything, watching waves and feeling her toes in the sand. I'm spending a lot of time walking on beaches this week, and well...remembering her....because you can't be on a beach and not think of Gramma--her and her "walkin on the beach" shoes! Rest in peace, dear grandma, you have earned it.
