It's the last full day of winter! Spring is coming! For many parts of the country this is excellent news...for a girl who loves cold weather but lives in LA, well this means it's just going to get hot :( But I do love seeing weather slowly change, it reminds me that God is the God who brings new seasons, in our year and in our lives, and we're on the cusp of a new season of life as we head towards our time at Fuller being brought to a close. Happy new season to everyone! Here's what our week looked like...**1**
Gotta be honest, it wasn't the greatest week--we decided last night it was one of the most un-fun weeks of our marriage so far. My poor hubs was SO stressed and had so much work to do with it being finals week. Finals are always busy, but this particular quarter he had a horrible combination of classes. So we haven't shared a meal in a week, or even talked all that much--when he was home his nose was in his computer. BUT, finals are OVER, he survived, he's happily at the beach this morning for the first time in an entire month, and tonight we have a date night planned :)

Yesterday was my Grandma Hildie's 80th birthday! She has lived a full 80 years, through good times and tough times, and has always been a great support for all her 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way! Congrats to my cousin on a new baby coming!) It's a big year for my grandparents, not only do they both turn 80 (Papa's birthday is Monday) but they are going to be celebrating 60 years of marriage in December. In August the whole family is gathering in Colorado for a big reunion to celebrate these milestones, which will be an absolute blast! We love you, Grandma, happy birthday!!

Last night I tasted one of the best things I've EVER had, so good it needs a mention here on the blog. For our Thursday night girls group we made a homemade pizza for dinner using Trader Joe's pizza crust that you roll out, top and bake. Becca introduced us to pizza without a pizza sauce. Instead she chops sweet tomatoes, a lot of garlic, and fresh basil and uses that mixture as the "sauce" and then topped the pizza with eggplant, red peppers, onion, and some green pepper along with Parmesan and asiago cheese. Oh my word. Best pizza I have ever eaten!

It's been a really busy quarter, as I mentioned earlier, and we've had a lot of weekend commitments as well, which means we have not used our date night jar at all. The other night my hubs said "we need to get better about protecting our date night, this has been a little ridiculous!" I couldn't agree more! So this weekend, we actually drew 2 date night cards out of our jar. Tonight is "in home night of musicals" where we'll be enjoying at least one, hopefully two, classic musicals while snacking on popcorn, cookies and of course, wine :) He hasn't seen really any musicals, so I need to decide which ones I want him to watch! Tomorrow afternoon we'll be enjoying a picnic on the beach somewhere. Sounds like fun to me :)

Happiest moment of the week--I got a new oven! Living in student housing, we're kind of at the mercy of whatever the school wants to do to upgrade our apartments. Which is not usually much. I have hated our oven since I moved in a year ago. The knob didn't really have numbers on it anymore, so you were kind of always guessing as to what temperature the oven was being set to. It also was about 125 degrees off apparently, so when I tried setting it to 350 it would keep climbing to about 475. This might explain why everything I baked would burn. I finally called housing and said we needed a new stove when I opened the oven to find flames last week. They listened, and on Tuesday brought a beautiful new oven/stove that I am LOVING! Oh it is amazing, it doesn't burn things, it's clean, it has numbers on the knobs. Seriously, can't wait to bake cookies this afternoon!

I discovered a new favorite TV show this week. Parenthood on NBC. I watched the pilot on line the other night and loved it. Maybe because it stars Lauren Graham, from Gilmore Girls, who I adore. It's funny, sweet, and deals with a lot of family issues that are occurring in real families all over the country.

I am waiting for my new cookbook to arrive that I am beyond excited about! It's called Simply in Season and is full of recipes for dishes that center on fruits and vegetables, all broken down by season. So there's a section for "Fall appetizers," "Fall main dishes," "Fall side dishes," "Fall desserts" etc. All the recipes center on what is currently in season for that particular time of the year, to encourage people to buy locally grown, in season produce. I've been wanting it for quite some time now, and finally used a barnes and noble gift card to buy it for myself. So exciting!
