Summer Fun!

One of the things I have appreciated the most about Chuck is his ability to make me laugh and help me just let go and have fun in life =) This weekend I had four different events--two hikes, a bike ride, and a pool party, which have left me worn out, physically exhausted & sore, but feeling SO relaxed and refreshed! Here are some photos/highlights from the weekend:

Friday nights are date night for us, we guard that time pretty carefully--we're not allowed to make plans without checking with the other first--no homework is allowed--sometimes we join with other people or couples and sometimes it's just the two of us, but the point for us was to carve out some time to spend some quality hours together just having fun and enjoying one another. This summer we've started enjoying hikes together for date night. Because it's hot here, we don't leave until about 6, and hike about an hour down a trail before turning around, so we're done before dark. This past Friday night the two of us checked out Rubio Canyon, which was supposed to lead us to a water fall. It did, except it was essentially dried up. So, Chuck decided that was not cool enough and we needed to keep going. So we did. Up, and up and up---he says I even get credit for bouldering on this hike, we did a lot of scrambling over rocks, and sliding down hills, but it was totally worth it. The views from the spot where we eventually turned around (ok, where I made him turn around, my fear of heights kicked in and I wouldn't go any higher....) were beautiful even if they made me slightly dizzy!
Here are those photos:

On Saturday I spent most of the day hanging out with my wonderful small group of women, plus a few other friends! enjoying the sunshine, pool, and Subway sandwiches!

Here's Jenn looking quite relaxed...Jessica, Tera, Tammy, BeccaYou know it is a seminarian's pool party when one of you has to preach the next day and practices to all of you while the 'congregation' sits in the pool. By far the best way to hear a sermon we have now decided! And Becca did a great job :)

Saturday evening Chuck and I went with about 15 college students from Cal Tech on a hike. Chuck has done college ministry with some of these students for the last year, leading a small group, and just hanging out on their campus--so he thought he'd plan a hike to get students off campus and into nature. And, he needed another driver which was how I ended up going :) BUT, I am SO glad I did--this hike was BEAUTIFUL --SO much prettier than the other ones we had done (much greener...which we all know I need in life!). So we hiked up to Monrovia Falls and then came back down the hill for a pizza party at Cal Tech. It was a great night of getting to know some of the students and being outside in the beautiful evening air!

Today we went with our small group that we joined through Chuck's church on a bike ride at Santa Monica/Venice Beach. We rented bikes for an hour to ride around and then went and had dinner at a Caribbean restaurant a few blocks away. We were using this as an outreach event, so about 6 of our group members came and others from various Mosaic small groups came and brought friends. The weather was gorgeous, which meant the rest of LA was also at the beach, but we did pretty well avoiding running them over!

Beautiful kites were flying--it was pretty windy!
